My everyday supplements are Perricone MD’s Skin and Total Body Dietary Supplements, consisting of a pack of 8 tablets that includes Omega-3, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and other ingredients that support overall health. I bought these after reading on all the rave reviews on Nordstrom, Amazon, and Sephora (read the Q&A here). The recommended dosage is two packs per day, but since I have a pretty good diet I only take one unless I’m traveling, need more energy, or not eating well. The only other supplement I take is an iron pill because Skin & Total Body doesn’t include any iron (my guess is so that men can take it too). I’ve continued to purchase box after box of these vitamins and recommend it often to family and friends. My mom loves them as well and bought a few boxes to give to her sisters when she visits them next week. I recommend them for the following reasons:
Energy – I’ve found that these vitamins fight fatigue and that I have more energy for longer periods of time. In addition to my morning pack I always take these before playing sports, working out, or skiing.
Hair, Nails, and Skin – My hair and my nails have grown very fast ever since I started taking them. I really wish my nails wouldn’t grow that fast, to be honest. I have to cut them all the time and my manis only last like two days before new nail starts showing, it’s crazy. No significant effects on my face but both my mom and I noticed that the skin on our legs looked better and didn’t need to be moisturized as much. Perricone MD also makes a supplement for problem-skin called “Skin Clear“.
Focus and Alertness – I don’t know how they do it, since I don’t see caffeine on the ingredients list, but somehow these supplements make my mind clearer and make me more focused and productive. I read reviews of people saying that they were all of a sudden so energetic and motivated that they cleaned their entire house and did other major tasks and I thought, are they for real? I don’t want this to sound like a crazy-hyped informercial cult-supplement because it’s not but I honestly had a similar experience. The change in my level of focus and mental motivation was definitely noticeable.
Immune System – I don’t get sick nearly as frequently as my friends and coworkers and when I do I bounce back pretty quickly.
Eight pills is a lot to swallow (literally) but you get used to it, and a bonus is that you need to drink a ton of water to take them which is great for me because I’m not good at drinking water. No matter how amazing supplements are, they can never be a substitute for a good diet. I think that supplements like Perricone MD Skin & Total Body are for plugging the holes in the average person’s diet caused by, for example, a lack of variety, food preferences or allergies. Most importantly, eat lots and lots of greens (green smoothies are great), avoid processed foods as much as possible (e.g. whole milk instead of 2%), manage your stress, sleep early, and exercise!
